Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Overview
The online Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) program originating from Campbellsville’s Louisville campus features highly flexible courses designed and taught by licensed marriage and family therapists and experienced clinicians who are committed to student success. Grounded in a systemic and relational approach, the curriculum prepares students to understand individuals within the context of couples, families, relationships, communities, and larger social systems.
Coursework emphasizes marriage and family therapy skills, theories, and clinical practice, including marital and couples therapy, family therapy, working with children and adolescents, crisis and trauma, ethical practice, assessment, and other areas essential to effective relational and systemic care.
The MMFT program is delivered through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous online learning and supervised clinical experiences. Academic coursework is completed online, while practicum and externship experiences allow students to provide therapy within the communities where they reside. Clinical training emphasizes the development of a systemic perspective, relational clinical skills, and the ability to conceptualize and treat concerns within the context of relationships and family systems.
This affordable 60-credit-hour master’s program prepares students for professional practice through rigorous academic coursework and a minimum of 300 direct client contact hours as part of the program’s supervised clinical experience. Students develop skills in assessment, case conceptualization, treatment planning, and intervention with individuals, couples, and families while receiving supervision designed to strengthen their development as marriage and family therapists. Students can complete the MMFT degree in as few as two years and pursue the additional requirements necessary for licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in their state.

- This course is a continuation of the MMFT practicum experience. In the event the student completes 10 credit hours of MFT 690, but has not completed the required client contact hours, the student will remain in Graduate Candidacy as a practicum student under all the practicum requirements in the MMFT program until their hour requirements are met.
Admissions Requirements
To apply to the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy degree program, prospective students must submit the following:
- Online application
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Official transcript(s) from all colleges and universities attended demonstrating a combined GPA of 3.0 on all college-level coursework*
- Three (3) reference letters
- A 500-700 word personal statement
* Students with a GPA below a 3.0 may be considered conditionally.
Costs & Financial Aid
The Master of Marriage and Family Therapy online program costs $475 per credit hour. Campbellsville University’s staff is available to work with students to discover available financial aid options to make their education even more affordable.

A maximum of 12 credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university can be transferred into this program.
